Poláček & Partners

Largest Law Firms in Slovakia ranking for 2025 has been published. In the category of Regulation & Compliance, we have, just like in previous years, retained first place.

Stable leadership in Regulation & Compliance

Each year, the ranking of the largest law firms is prepared by the editorial team of The Slovak Spectator and the daily newspaper SME, in cooperation with Finstat. The Právo (“Law”) magazine, in which the ranking is published, presented the results once again confirming Poláček & Partners as the leader in the Regulation & Compliance category for the third consecutive year.

For our firm, this represents confirmation of our long-term strategic focus on regulation in key sectors such as energy, construction, and environmental protection. We perceive the legal complexity of heavily regulated industries as a challenge in which we truly feel at home.

Pavol Poláček, managing partner of our firm, commented on the award:

“I see this recognition as confirmation of the long-term trust of our clients and of our strategic focus on regulated industries. Regulatory law combines legal precision with a deep understanding of how markets and the public sector function. I am pleased that even in times of rapidly changing regulation we are able to provide clients with practical, reliable, and results-driven solutions. I would like to thank our clients for their trust and our entire team for their professional work.”

Breakthrough result: significant savings for the public sector

The daily newspaper SME also highlighted one of the successful projects in this field – the public procurement of natural gas for the Žilina Self-Governing Region.

The Žilina regional authority decided to consolidate gas purchases for all of its institutions into a single large procurement contract. In this demanding project, with an estimated value of EUR 15.6 million, the law firm Poláček & Partners played a key role. The project was likely the first public tender of natural gas supplies of such scale and complexity on the Slovak market.

“The tender achieved an incredibly low markup on the commodity price of just EUR 0.0001, with estimated total savings of approximately EUR 700,000 per year,” said Jozef Hudák for SME, who led the project together with Tomáš Siskovič.

How the largest law firms' ranking is compiled

The Largest Law Firms ranking evaluates the size of law firms based on several objective indicators – the number and practice of lawyers in a given firm, revenue, economic results, and the amount of remuneration for cases. It is therefore not just about the size of the firm as such, but about the “size of the case”, i.e., the remuneration for a given assignment.

The individual criteria may vary slightly across specific practice categories, which include: Mergers and Acquisitions, Intellectual Property, Real Estate and Development, Dispute Resolution, Labor Law, Insolvency Law, Banking and Finance, Competition Law, and Regulation & Compliance.

In the Regulation & Compliance category – in which we once again confirmed our leading position in 2025 – the most significant weighting was given to:

  • points for cases in this category where the firm received fees exceeding EUR 20,000 (this criterion was given a weight of 70 %),
  • revenues (10 %),
  • points for lawyers (20 %),

with both revenues and lawyer points adjusted to reflect the proportion of time the firm devoted to this category in the previous year.

The published results once again confirmed that clients turn to us for complex matters requiring a combination of expertise, experience, and a sensitive understanding of rapidly evolving regulation.

We congratulate our colleagues from other successful law firms and wish them many inspiring projects in the coming year.

Further information, as well as results in the main and additional categories, were published in the appendix to the SME daily newspaper on 25 November 2025 and on the SME website.

And since we have outstanding experts in energy, construction, and environmental law at our firm, each month we also bring you summaries of legislative developments in these areas: monitoring of energy legislation and monitoring of construction and environmental legislation.
