Jozef Hudák and Pavol Poláček receive the "Largest Law Firms" award for the year 2023

Our human and direct approach has brought its fruits

The ranking titled the 10 largest law firms 2023 is published annually by The Slovak Spectator and the SME newspaper in cooperation with Finstat. It is part of Právo magazine, a supplement of SME with a comprehensive review of the legal practice.

Our top ranking in the Regulatory Law & Compliance category came as an unexpected gift for our 10th birthday. Exactly ten years ago, we decided to focus on the field of regulatory law. We have gradually developed and grown from a small office of three into today’s team of 31 with 20 lawyers. Despite this - or maybe because of it - we carefully nurture our personal and human approach to our clients, without whom we would not be at the top of the aforementioned ranking today.

In response to the ranking results, partner Pavol Poláček,  stated "I have great respect for each of our clients and I’m grateful for the trust they have shown us for 10 years. Trust is the most valuable thing they can give us. It motivates us to constantly move forward and gives us the energy to solve even the most complex cases. I am very pleased about this award and I’m glad to know that we are useful to our clients and that our honest work and high degree of specialization are bearing fruit. The award is an encouragement for our entire team".

Energy and construction regulation is our passion

With regard to our ranking, Právo magazine noted that our team averted the threat of the adoption of new legislation regarding gas storage in a form that the Association of Energy Suppliers considered disadvantageous. Through negotiations with state authorities as well as with important stakeholders, we ensured that the original draft law lost support.

Partner Jozef Hudák who, among others, worked on the aforementioned case stated, "We try to honestly perceive and understand the specifics of the issue and the position of the players on the market. You can't succeed without it".

We have been dealing with energy and construction regulation for a long time. However, according to our management, the key to success is not only experience, but also the fact that from the very beginning the firm was built on specialized teams of lawyers. "Thanks to this, our colleagues have a comfortable space to acquire in-depth legal knowledge in the field of energy or construction regulation, but also to understand the technical side of things and the impact on the client's business," explains partner Juraj Ondrejka.

He went on to say that “based on the feedback from our clients, we understand that we are useful for them especially for our ability to respond promptly and professionally, even to the most detailed regulatory issues".

The following criteria were assessed

Every year, the ranking takes into account criteria that objectively speak about the size of the law firms. It assesses the number of lawyers and their experience, as well as the firm’s revenues, economic results and the amount of remuneration for cases.

Individual criteria can differ in each of the sub-categories, which include: Mergers and Acquisitions, Intellectual Property, Real Estate and Development, Dispute agenda, Labor law, Insolvency law and Regulation & Compliance. In the category of Regulation & Compliance, in which we placed first, the following criteria were taken into account:

·        number of points for cases in this category for which the law firm received a reward of more than 20,000 EUR (this criterion had a weight of 70%),

·        revenues (10%),

·        number of points for lawyers (20%),

while for revenues and lawyers, the time that the law firm devoted to this category was also taken into account.

Last but not least, we would also like to congratulate the other law firms included in the ranking. We wish them much success, interesting cases and the motivation to continue doing great work.

More information as well as the results in the main and other sub-categories were published in the supplement of the SME daily newspaper dated 28 November 2023 and on the SME website.
